The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
