Nigel Farage Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
