Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.

“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
