Members of an Italy-based clan of thieves who stole more than £1.2 million valued of goods, among them from former Newcastle United striker Isak, have been mandated to pay back just £1 each.

Siblings Valentino and Giacomo Nikolov, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her child Charlie Jovanovic travelled to the north-east of England to raid multiple homes in spring 2024.

The foursome were jailed for between a decade or less in May 2025.

At a criminal assets hearing at the court, Jela Jovanovic and the Nikolov brothers were ordered to pay back £1 per person while Charlie must hand over over a thousand pounds.

Particulars of the Burglaries

The judge was told the gang came by boat in the United Kingdom on March 27, 2024 and employed a RV as their "headquarters", which they parked at a service area and Durham service stations while utilizing a separate vehicle to search for targets and execute burglaries.

On March 31 they stole over one million pounds of items such as designer clothing, purses, jewelry and a CBE medal from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, while the residents were away.

The next evening, the crew entered a home on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and took designer handbags, valuables and footwear worth more than £100,000.

Following surveillance of the football club's training ground for two days, they then acted at the residence of Swedish striker Mr Isak in Darras Hall on April 4, stealing £10,000 in money, £68,000 worth of jewelry and the striker's one hundred twenty thousand pound luxury car.

The gang, who were described by the prosecution as experienced itinerant burglars, wore gloves and masks, turned their phones on silent as they neared their objectives and strapped a number plate, which had been taken from a garage in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with rubber straps.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Valentino had denied the burglary plot but was convicted by jurors, while his family members had all entered guilty pleas to the identical accusation.

At the criminal gains hearing, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said each of the burglars had profited from their crimes to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the affected parties said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the sole individual deemed to have any money that could be "realised", namely over a thousand pounds which had already been seized by authorities, the court was informed, with two weeks to be spent in prison if he failed to pay.

The remaining members had no assets or assets so were ordered to make a token amount of £1 per person, with one week in prison the consequence if the sum was not paid.

Judge Spragg said if they were found with assets in the future, "for example operating Italy in a sports car or possessing a home", prosecutors could initiate further action to "satisfy the amount due".
